Argumentation, if the reasons weren't obvious enough:
  1. I wonder why these maps are even in RA: it cannot work (hello, team mode), and idiots don't resign when you're outnumbered because a guy left/dropped -> either quit and get hexed, or go afk waiting for the other team to reach 20.
  2. This is arena. It's supposed to be a deathmatch type without the running around bs. If this was a test round in perspective of getting rid of heroes and making it a team game, then OK.
Don't really see how this is a waste of time, it can only improve the game because you know whether it works or whether it doesn't.

Agreed on RA, kind of silly to even try it there.

It's pretty clear only having a deathmatch format can't work for TA if they want to expand it and have a ladder and tournaments, that's just like if every gvg was on the old isle of jade. So having maps that require splitting makes you bring more versatile templates and promotes the team coordination and individual skill. I agree they could probably just make new maps but I don't see how these maps make TA much worse than it was before.

As i said before the new maps are horrible in TA/RA, but I wanted to point out a couple positives that came with the update.

1. I have managed to kick my unhealthy addiction to GW and dont play half as much as I did before.

2. I now know I can save a little money in 2009 because I wont be buying Guild Wars 2.

Thanks again Anet!

They could improve the game even more by concentrating on the things that make it bad, for instance.

Maybe that's true in theory, but it's not true in practice. R/P, A/Mo, D/P and other mindless templates are very strong on the split, and AFAIK, they're the ones getting the highest consecs this weekend. So while it's a nice thought that adding HB maps will encourage good templates like Shock Axe, Crip Shot, etc. it's not going to happen when scrubbier options are still very much viable.

So it's not a waste of time if they plan on replacing hb or making a new area with these maps as 4v4 team arenas but it's a waste of time if they actually put it in team arena's which is pretty much a piece of shit atm. Not to mention they didn't even develop anything so it probably took barely any time.

BTW what time do all of these pro ta'ers play? US prime time consisted of you just dominating terrible players until you get bored, sometimes running into a gvg guild like happysad running some gimmick.

OH YEAH, heal as one packhunters with 2 disrupt spam skills and a/mo with tripple knockdowns SURELY take GREAT SKILL.
Like SPIRIT POOPING, eh?

at all the ppl saying it will promote "versatile" builds...read up.

@Vaga, there is no "pro" TAers, there's just lame dipsh*ts and players trying to run sth balanced.

How in hell can those maps be balanced in ra and ta, first team to cap wins......

Skipping this thread, I suspect the interest from Anet in putting cap pts into TA is from the favorable impression they got from the week of costume brawls, however it looks like they entirely skipped over the sealed play aspect of it that got the support from an HA scrub like myself, and wanted to just implement a format where they have the cap pt atmosphere coupled with competitive play.

But I don't see this necessarily as a problem. Long battle is OK if it's fun. The main problem is a situation where your team is ... ugh, and you want to quit but you can't because you'd get Dishonorable hex. So, instead of waiting 1 min, I gotta wait 10 min.

1. TA was never fun or anything but a way to farm glad points through gimmicks

2. its actually not that bad, and don't be retarded by saying ppl are just gonna run shadow meld

look you get this map maybe once or twice in a 10 map run??? its just not viable for shadowmeld.

anywho its actually quite fun, adding an extra element of strategy to the TA maps where maybe a dancing daggers and other gimmicks can't win.

It's HB without the stupidity of heroes.

i'm loving it so far.

wow youre a scrub
everytime i go in i get one of the hb maps. like for my first map. then i get an old school map, then another hb map. so your theory is wrong. i get half and half not 1 or 2 out of 10. all the teams i keep getting on are setting up for hb maps only. so when we win a hb map we always fail on the normal maps.
and there i am everytime. the last women standing. its just stupid. and you know it.
so stop trying to justify a crappy idea. anet hates you regardless.

After playing a bit more, I am really annoying with A/Mo's and Dancing Daggers. There's tons of other assassin builds with these HB maps flooding the area. Getting kinda stale and really boring. And that's afgter what, 2 days or something like that? In a week it's going to be AvA battles just like HB.

That's so not true. In Prophecies I played TA tons of time, because aside of GvG it was the BEST game mode by far. Gladiator points ruined the fun a lot there, because people stopped playing for fun and everything degenerated into cookie cutter matches. Before that, TA was fun cause everyone experimented with various builds, and a lot of top GvG teams including WM were testing split builds there.

Well, technically, it could not be a waste of time; but knowing ANet, they just slapped it together for reasons unknown. It's stuff like the dimmed tags no one asked for and few like.

I had fun as well with the new maps. I agree with the previous posters that they take way too long and should be cut down. Also, I really wish that when 3 players have resigned out of 4, the match should be over. Really no point in dragging it on against the will of the majority. Pretty tired of /dance-ing for minutes or micro-managing my dishonor points.

word, I don't think you should be calling anyone a scrub. If your building for HB maps only, of course your going to lose the normal deathmatch maps. Maybe you should start to suck less. I love the new additions of the maps because it gives me the option of spliting vs builds I would want to split against. If I had the chance to split vs half of those hex builds and spirit ways I would have taken that. Also word, its called chance. Just because you got x amount of HB maps in a row doesn't mean that its a statistic.

If I wanted to run around caping stuff and avoiding combat I would have gone to HB, when I go to RA or TA all I expect is fighting noting less and sure as hell nothing more.
